The Shumaker-Parry group has successfully developed a gold nanostar synthesis; however, the branches of the resulting structures are short, which limits their applicability. This project will be conducted in three main phases: 1. Reproduce gold nanostar synthesis using Shumaker-Parry SOP. 2. Introduce Triton-X into the synthesis with the hope of increasing branching. 3. Characterize nanoparticles using scanning-electron microscopy, UV Vis spectroscopy, and IR microscopy.
