Persistent low-level infections of the Hepatitis Delta Virus (HDV) have been suggested to lead to primary Sjogren’s syndrome development. A study was designed to identify whether progesterone, B-estradiol, and DHEA affect the expression of the HDV antigen in an in-vitro system. No significant changes were observed with progesterone and B-estradiol. DHEA exhibited a dose-dependent increase in HDV antigen transcript.
