Project description
This research project will investigate how teacher candidates are prepared in universities across the United States. It aims to establish the affordances and challenges of particular university-based licensure pathways and approaches.
Student Role: Undergraduate researcher will be responsible for visiting websites of PI identified university-based teacher preparation programs and gathering the following information: 1) What degree(s) and/or certificates does the institution offer that lead to initial teacher licensure in one or more of the following secondary subject areas: history, social studies, English, language arts, mathematics, earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, life sciences, physical sciences; 2) which departments and/or colleges offer these degrees/certificates; 3) What coursework is required for these degrees/certificates? Researcher will enter this data into a shared spreadsheet and save any associated documents (such as degree plans) in a shared folder.
Undergraduate researcher will assist project faculty in content analysis and descriptive statistical analysis of gathered data, and will work with faculty to generate future research questions based on this data analysis. No experience is necessary. PI will provide training in these areas.
Student Benefits: Student researchers will have the opportunity to learn the basics of mixed methods research and research project management.
Project Duration: This larger project will be ongoing for the next 2-3 years, but students would be welcome for as little as one semester. Students could work as many as 8 hours per week, but we would accept volunteers for as few as 1 hour per week.
