Culturally Tailored Interventions to Address Gendered-Based Violence and Trauma Among Indigenous Populations

Project description

The College of Social Work at the University of Utah is seeking a Research Assistant to support a new project focused on reviewing peer-reviewed literature on culturally tailored interventions for addressing trauma and gender-based violence within Indigenous communities. This project aims to identify and synthesize interventions addressing domestic and sexual violence, specifically, those adapted to meet the unique needs of Indigenous populations. The findings will contribute to a peer-reviewed manuscript, offering opportunities for student co-authorship.

Student Role: This is a new project, and the student will be actively involved in all phases, including literature review, data extraction, and dissemination of results through publication. The student will join a small research team consisting of the study’s Principal Investigator Dr. Richer (social work), Dr. O’Connor (social work), and other research assistants. Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct literature reviews to gather research on trauma and gender-based violence interventions tailored for Indigenous communities
  • Extract and organize data from selected studies to identify promising interventions and gaps in the research
  • Attend weekly project meetings to discuss progress and receive training
  • Contribute to data synthesis, table preparation, and the preparation of a peer-reviewed manuscript
  • Collaborate closely with the research team to ensure the project’s success
Student Benefits: The student will learn how to summarize relevant findings, including making key decisions about which data to include in publications. The student will have the opportunity to contribute to a peer-reviewed scholarly publication. The student will work within a collaborative team environment, meeting weekly with the Principal Investigator (PI) and the research team.

Paid Description:

Volunteer, Prepare a UROP proposal, Write an Honors Thesis or Senior Thesis, Earn independent study credit.

Minimum Requirements: Current undergraduate preferably in social work or a related field. Interest in research related to social justice, gender-based violence, or Indigenous Populations. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Experience in research or data extraction is a plus but not required
