Faculty Mentor: Hossein Montazerian
Title: Assistant Professor
College: Engineering
School / Department: Mechanical Engineering
Project description
Join a multidisciplinary research team focused on engineering innovative implantable technologies. This project combines biomaterials design with bioelectronic systems to address surgical challenges such as wound closure and to develop tissue-interfacing devices for real-time diagnosis and therapy. Our goal is to advance next-generation, minimally invasive medical solutions. More information can be found online at https://biomintech.mech.utah.edu
Student Role: Undergraduate students can lead an independent project or contribute to our ongoing projects. Research activities involve the design and synthesis of new soft materials (hydrogels) and characterizing them for minimally invasive applications. Characterizations include mechanical and rheological tests, chemical spectroscopic tests, cell culture, and electronic fabrication and testing.
Student Benefits: Students will received one-to-one mentorship and gain hands-on experience in biomedical materials and devices, build a strong foundation for careers in biotech, and become competitive applicants for UROP and other undergraduate research funding opportunities.
Project Duration: >6 months project duration and hours per week vary based on student availability.
Opportunity Type: Research Assistant
Opportunity Location Type: In Person
Is this a paid opportunity: ToBeDetermined
Paid Description:
Volunteer, Prepare a UROP proposal, Write an Honors Thesis or Senior Thesis, Earn independent study credit.
Minimum Requirements: No prior research experience required—just curiosity, motivation, and a willingness to learn!
