Research around suicide gestures has typically been overlooked, as it can been seen as manipulative to say you are going to kill yourself without any intention to do so. However it is important to understand if there may be differences between individuals who make gestures, or take an action, versus individuals who make threats, which is more verbal or communicative. The results show that there is no significant differences within the demographics or functions for these two behaviors.
