Posterior Vitreous Detachment (PVD) can lead to vision loss if vitreous liquefaction occurs early. Collagen IX is suspected to contribute to the separation of vitreal collagen fibers. We believe that collagen IX therefore helps regulate vitreous liquefaction. To test this hypothesis, we plan to quantify liquefaction and associated mechanical properties of mouse vitreous from control mice and knockout mice without the gene for collagen IX.
