Poster #30: Ian McCollough – High-Temperature Castable Ceramic Insulation for use in Aerospace Applications

Faculty mentor: Raymond Cutler

For my research I’ve been working on developing a castable ceramic insulation. This insulation needs to be lightweight, strong, and must have very low thermal conductivity. My main focus throughout this past semester has been increasing the strength while reducing the density by fine tuning my fabrication process. I’ve also been working on obtaining high quality images to help me further understand my material using an SEM microscope.
