The advent of big data is not a mere addition to research but a revolution of research methodology fundamentally altering the concept of participants, the role of the researcher, and the current ethical heuristic governing research. Big data has altered how human subjects and consent are conceptualized and contextualized in research. Do these alterations warrant a shift towards a new ethical framework of research?
