The purpose of my project is to develop a procedure to obtain pure primary endothelial cells (ECs) from patients with cardiovascular disease. The sheath that is otherwise discarded after a left-heart catheterization procedure is obtained, and the adherent cells are collected and incubated with fluorescent-conjugated antibodies specific to ECs, leukocytes and other various cell types. The cell admixture is stained with dapi and the samples are sorted via fluorescence-activated cell sorting.
