Using all five waves of ADD Health longitudinal data, the present study tested the latter half of the gateway sequence. That is, we examined the prospective effects of marijuana use on illicit drug use in middle adulthood. This study also explored if this association varied by the age of initial marijuana use, gender, and race/ethnicity.
