During the 2014 Euromaidan Revolution, Twitter users in Ukraine generated a large dataset of 96 million tweets. I performed a quantitative analysis on Ukrainians who chose to communicate in English on Twitter between 2013 and 2015. This analysis demonstrated that topic models can be an effective way to observe change in political discourse, while revealing a few insights into the ways English may be deployed in political crises involving speakers that don’t use English as their primary language.
